Online recording story on NPR today

All Things Considered just aired my story about online recording--in which I hired online session players to flesh out a home-studio demo of my song "Wasting Time No More." The audio will be posted at the NPR site later tonight at this link.

The full band track is posted on MySpace.

You can also see a solo performance video of "Wasting Time No More" on YouTube.

More about this story soon...

JPR,

My girlfriend Antara and I listened with great interest to your radio story yesterday about your home recording collaboration. Nice report!

Antara has been making music here in Santa Barbara for years, and has collaborated with many of the wonderful musicians around town, but your radio piece suggests ways that she might be able to make music with a wider community AND keep her day job too.
Thanks.

Can you tell us a little about what core components you have chosen for your home studio? From time to time I glance at recording catalogues, to see what will fit in our budget, but the choices can be overwhelming. I see that you have published books and edit a mag too, so if you just want to point us to one of those that is fine.

Best regards,
Roy Hunter

My own studio is based on an Mbox, which comes with Pro Tools LE. I have a good Audio-Technica large-diaphragm condenser mic and an external hard drive for storing the audio files...and not much else but instruments and songs.

All this gear is forever changing, but this setup has worked well for me.
